cutnook

A free SVG converter made for cutting.

Most converters stop at an SVG. CutNook makes one for the job you’re cutting: real paths, a layer for each color, and checks for the pieces a cutter or a laser would get wrong, before you download.

How it works

  1. Upload a PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIFUp to 15 MB each and 20 at once. iPhone photos (HEIC) are turned into JPG as you add them, in browsers that can read them, such as Safari.
  2. Say what it’s forVinyl, heat transfer, sticker, stencil, laser cutting, engraving or General vector. That sets the colors, the detail and the checks.
  3. Check and downloadTiny pieces and doubled lines come out with one click. Set the width and height, then download the SVG, or a PNG at the real size.

PNG to vector, JPG to vector

  • A vector is shapes drawn as paths, so it stays sharp at any size and a machine can follow its edges. A PNG or JPG is pixels, which a cutter can’t follow.
  • Every shape in the SVG is a closed path. No picture is hidden inside the file.
  • Tracing your own pictures is free. Downloads on the free plan are counted each month.

Questions

What is the difference between converting and tracing a picture?
Some converters put your picture inside an SVG file: it looks right, but a machine has no edges to follow. CutNook traces the picture into closed paths, a layer for each color.
Which files can I convert to SVG?
PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF. iPhone photos (HEIC) are turned into JPG as you add them, in browsers that can read them, such as Safari.
My cutting software says the file is too complex. Why?
Tracing a noisy picture makes paths with very many points. The checks flag excessive nodes; to simplify, make a new design with more smoothing or less detail.
Can I edit the SVG afterwards?
Yes. It is ordinary paths in layers, so any program that imports SVG can change it. In CutNook, tiny pieces and doubled lines come out with one click.
Is it free?
Tracing your own pictures is free with a free account, and it includes SVG downloads every month. Paid plans add unlimited downloads and designs CutNook draws for you.
